Cameron's World

Spring 2003

Birthday, April

This year I had a whole weekend of birthday celebration!

Friday I brought 24 donuts to class.

Saturday night Mom and Jan took me to the Kirkland Broiler, and Mom and I shared a plate of barbeque ribs. Yum!! Jan told the waiter that it was my birthday, and the wait staff brought me a free surprise sundae, put a big hat on my head, sang a goofy birthday song, and took my picture!

When we got back home, I opened presents and blew out all eleven candles on the key lime pie Mom made for me [right].

On Sunday, six friends met me at Kenmore Lanes for two rounds of bowling. I liked the red ball best [below left]. Then we went back to Dad's house for a round of croquet, pizza, cake and ice cream, and more presents. When Brennan joined in, we played "Superhero," running around the yard throwing big balls at each other.

Dustin, Kurk, Kyler, Nate, and I play croquet. Kyler achieved poison first, but Nate won by hanging back.

Science Fair, May

For the spring Science Fair, Kyler Blue and I wrote a report on how car engines work [right]. (Kyler's not in the photo because he had to be at a baseball game the night of the school Open House.) We found most of our information on the Web, especially the How Stuff Works website. We also made a model of a cylinder out of construction paper.

For my in-class presentation, I got 98 percent.

Spring Band Performance, June

The beginning and advanced interschool elementary bands held their spring concert June 2nd. Some of the kids played solos or in small groups. I performed in a trio with Natasha Borgen and Claire Saunders [left]. We played Kum Bah Yah. I thought we did pretty well.

I really like the trumpet, and next year I want to continue with the advanced band and take trumpet lessons. Then maybe I can play in the jazz band in junior high.

Neighborhood Yard Sale, June

The Cascade Ridge Homeowners Association organized a neighborhood yard sale.  Eleven families participated. Jan was racing in the Portland Rose cup that weekend, so it was just Mom and me.

I got to sell some of my old toys and games, and I also set up a lemonade stand with two kinds of lemonade and cookies [right]. People didn't buy as much as I'd hoped, but between the lemonade and my own stuff I netted about $20. Plus, Mom said I was such a big help that she paid me half of the proceeds from the sale of my KettCar, which was the highest priced item we sold.
