Trumpet Recital, March

I've been taking trumpet lessons from Ron Barrow since last September. On March 7th he held a trumpet recital for all his students.  I played a duet with him called "March," by Korda [right]. I felt pretty good about my performance, and people I didn't even know came up to me to tell me I did a good job.  I had a lot of fans in the audience:  Mom, Grandma Joanie, Dad, Jan, and even Sofia!

Being a Big Brother

Being a brother is just a whole lot of fun because I never have to do any of the hard work, like get up at 5:00 AM to feed her. I get to hold her and play with her when she's in a good mood.

She's the cutest little baby I've ever seen (I don't remember what Brennan was like). She's starting to get more smiley and "talkative," but she still doesn't have any of her motor skills down. So for now, I'll still be moving her around whenever I want to play with her.

My 12th Birthday, April

I turned 12 this year.  (That means that next year I'll be an official teenager, and I can drive my parents crazy!!) I had a good birthday... three days long!

Saturday, the 24th, my friends Kyler, Trevor, and Robby came over for pizza, ice cream cake, and a game of croquet. Brennan and Sofia were there, too. Then Dad took us guys to Rainbow Run for some miniature golf.  We didn't keep score, but we had a good time. We almost got attacked by a killer Canada goose!

Sunday night Mom and Jan took me to Tony Roma's for dinner because barbeque ribs are one of my most favorite foods. Then at home we had the cake that Mom made [above].

Monday night, my birthday, we had a birthday dinner at Dad's. I guess I'm pretty spoiled with all these celebrations!

My favorite present was the CD boom box my friends chipped in together to get me [left], along with a Linkin Park CD, Reanimation. I also received some new basketball clothes, a baseball glove, and gift certificates to the Sykart cart racing track for lessons and driving.

Science Fair, May

I started working on my Science Fair project with Robby Ryan in February, creating a Rube Goldberg system whose objective was to turn on a light bulb in no fewer than 12 steps. We designed a system of levers, pulleys, weights, tubes, dominoes, mini-cars, and electronics that covered a 12-ft by 4-ft board [right] and turned on the light at the bottom of the board.  We got a lot of attention at the Fair from  both parents and students, which was really nice, but because of some technical oversights our grade wasn't as high as I wanted after all that hard work.

Piano Recital, June

On June 19th I played in my third year-end piano recital.  I played Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, simplified from the original 23 pages to 9 pages of music.  I started practicing in March.

I chose Rhapsody in Blue because I like that I know the melodies, and there are lots of parts that are fun to play, like the glissando at the very beginning [left].
