Cameron's World

Summer 2002

Piano, June

As of June, I've been taking piano lessons for one year.  My teacher, Tara Wootten, is really nice. I played Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy" at the year-end recital [left]. I like playing, but practicing is sometimes RRREEEAAALLLYYY boring.

Soccer Camp, June

I went to Skyhawks soccer camp for one week in June. It was so fun that now I'm signed up to play soccer in the fall. I like being goalie best. We had really nice weather for camp except the last day, for our tournament. Then it poured all day [above].  Ruined my funky hairdo [right]!

July Fourth

For the Fourth of July, we drove to Portland and spent the day with the Williamsons [right are Lorraine, Nicolai, David, and Jeanne]. It was so warm that we could swim in their pool.  We went to the Elks' Club for dinner and fireworks. We were so close to the field where they shot off fireworks that we had ashes falling in our hair!  And even though they didn't have gigantic fireworks, they had so many, usually lots shooting up at the same time, that the show lasted an hour!

Flag Football Camp, July

I went to Skyhawks flag football camp for one week in July.  It was really fun, and our coach was really funny. On Friday we had a Super Bowl game.  I decorated my T-shirt as part of the Blue Lightning team [left]. I like the number 17. My favorite positions were running back and wide receiver [above and below left].  Out of 28 final points for our team, I made two touchdowns and a safety! At the end of the day, our team won the "super bowl" [below right].

Mount St. Helensand a Broken Arm (August)!!

On August 10th, I broke my arm.  I was riding a bike and I power-slid on an outdoor, undercover basketball court, and the bike landed on my hand, twisted it around, and my radius broke near the wrist. After one week with a temporary cast, I got a fiberglass half-cast with a Gortex lining. I could swim with it, which was really cool. There were lots of colors to choose from, but I liked lime-green best.  Unfortunately, we had to cancel fall soccer because we didn't know how long I'd have the cast and have to be careful with my arm.

Later in August Mom, Jan and I visited Mount St. Helens. The coolest part was standing in a completely open place not far from the mountain and then seeing a photograph of dense old-growth forest in that exact spot before the volcano exploded.  Before the eruption you couldn't see the mountain at all from that spot! In the photo above left, Mom and I are on top of Windy Ridge (really windy!), and Mt. Rainier is behind us.
